January 10, 2025The Samsung 980 PRO PCIe NVMe SSD 2TB is a remarkable storage solution that combines exceptional speed, reliability, and capacity. Designed for high-performance systems, it excels in every aspect of modern computing needs.
First and foremost, the storage capacity of 2TB is a game-changer for gamers, content creators, and professionals alike. It offers ample space for storing large game files, 4K videos, and other data-intensive applications without worrying about running out of room.
What truly sets the 980 PRO apart is its blazing-fast loading speeds. With read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 5,100 MB/s (on compatible PCIe 4.0 systems), this SSD significantly reduces boot times, enhances application responsiveness, and shortens file transfer durations. Whether you're loading a massive open-world game or rendering high-definition video, this SSD keeps up effortlessly.
Another standout feature is its thermal management. Samsung's nickel-coated controller and heat spreader prevent overheating, ensuring consistent performance even during intense tasks. This reliability is crucial for anyone pushing their system to its limits.
Installation is a breeze, especially for those familiar with M.2 slots, and Samsung's Magician software provides excellent tools for monitoring drive health, performance optimization, and firmware updates.
While it is on the premium end of the price spectrum, the investment is justified for users seeking top-tier performance and durability. In short, the Samsung 980 PRO 2TB NVMe SSD is a powerhouse that elevates any system's performance and is a must-have for anyone looking to future-proof their storage needs.
Pros:
Exceptional read and write speeds.
Large 2TB storage capacity.
Effective thermal management.
Reliable and durable.
Cons:
Premium price point.
Overall, this SSD is a solid choice for enthusiasts and professionals who demand the best.

March 14, 2024I was using the 970 EVO Plus in my laptops until recently. I purchased a 990 Pro for my desktop and decided to put the 980 Pro it was replacing into my business laptop. When I saw that it stepped down to PCIe 3.0 x4 and ran at full speed I decided to buy two more for my gaming laptop!
The 2TB 980 Pro is pretty unique in my experience. I have about a dozen different computers all doing different things and for different projects (business at home) so I have a storage space issue sometimes. I upgrade drives all the time… or so I thought! I no longer have a need now that all of my drives are 2TB options.
The Pro line of SSD/NVMe drives have hardware based encryption (Opal 2 not Pyrite) as a general rule of thumb, fast read and write speeds, cheap price point for the tier, and they have a great warranty.
When I put the 2TB 980 Pro in my PCIe 3.0 devices I never in my wildest dreams expected to get full PCIe 3.0 speeds. Other brands just throttle the read and write speeds. Samsung’s controller actually negotiates a 3.0 link and operates at full 3.0 spec! I do get notified in Samsung Magician that it could run faster in a PCIe 4.0 slot. As annoying as that is it does tell me that when my laptops die I won’t need to be concerned with the capacity of its replacement. We all know that can cost hundreds to increase at initial build. Samsung has made the decision to build a high quality long lasting device!
Samsung has earned its spot as my top storage option for their stability and performance across the board. So for those wondering if it’s worth investing in a PCIe 4.0 NVMe drive for their PCIe 3.0 limited devices the answer is “Absolutely!” Grab a Samsung 980 Pro and you’ll never look back!
Stripped heatsink screw but otherwise works perfectly fine and arrived on time

May 13, 2024Arrived on time and is still functioning well. I encountered one problem with this purchase, but I don't believe normal buyers are going to have this issue. I intended to remove the heatsink from this SSD so I could attach the motherboard included heatsink to it, but one of the screws on the heatsink arrived stripped, making it impossible to remove. Fortunately I have a vertical graphics card, so I could hide the SSD behind the graphics card, but I still think it is a disappointment.
There is a version of this SSD for sale without the heatsink, but the heatsink version of this SSD had an amazing deal attached to it at the time of purchase, making it too good to pass up on. While it is a disappointment, I don't really see the need to return the item over it. It still works exactly as intended and I was able to successfully hide it.
Overall, besides the heatsink removal problem, everything else about this experience was great. The item arrived on time and works fully as intended. Most people aren't going to buy this item to remove the heatsink, and I do believe I just had bad luck getting a stripped screw, so I would say if you're interested in buying this SSD, go for it.
